Happy holidays from Rotary Service Connections

By: Rotary Service Connections staff

This holiday season, we want to take a moment and thank you for your countless contributions to improve communities near and far. Through our clubs, districts, and Rotary Community Corps, together we extend a warm smile and helping hand to our neighbors with fewer resources. In addition to year-round projects, many clubs and districts organize special activities to help spread holiday cheer. From providing seed money to start a new business to serving hot meals to purchasing presents off a wish list, our Rotary family brightens this season:

  • LunarNewYearIn celebration of the Lunar New Year, every year the Rotary Club of Tachia South, Taiwan, lights up 500 lanterns painted by local youth. The lanterns, which share personal stories through their decorations, are publically displayed during the Light-Up Expo to promote local culture and tradition.
  • The Rotary Club of Amman-Petra, Jordan, partnered with the Jordanian Foodbank and a local organization to distribute food packages to low-income families in Dhiban. The packages were delivered in June 2014 to ensure the families had enough meals to break their fasts during the month of Ramadan.
  • ChristmasThe Interact Club of Rosario National High School, Philippines, in partnership with the Akap Bata Organization, prepared and hosted a special Christmas party for children from Barangay Muzon II in Rosario, Cavite. The Interactors also presented the children with gifts during the holiday celebration.
  • In celebration of Diwali, the Rotary Club of Khopoli, India, distributed solar lanterns and boxes of sweet treats to tribal communities lacking electricity in Umbre Thakurwadi.

If your club is still looking for a project to support this holiday season, visit Rotary Ideas, our crowdsourcing tool created to help clubs find partners for their projects. Here are a few examples:

  • WASHThe Rotary Club of Montego Bay Sunrise, Jamaica, is seeking partners to apply for a Rotary Global Grant to supply eleven rural primary schools with safe drinking water.
  • The Rotary Club of Tauranga, New Zealand, seeks partners to provide ophthalmology equipment for Marine Reach, a locally started organization of small hospital ships that provide free services to residents in the Pacific Islands.
  • HogarThe Rotary Club of Tomebamba-Cuenca, Ecuador, is seeking partners to provide a house for Hogar Emaus, a volunteer organization that temporarily houses families of children undergoing cancer treatment at a nearby hospital.

With heartfelt gratitude for all you do to improve communities near and far, happy holidays and best wishes for a healthy, happy, and successful new year.

Yours in Rotary service,

The Rotary Service Connections team
